Elephant Button Handmade Card

We all know buttons aren’t just for sewing. Shaped buttons make great embellishments for crafts, including scrapbooking and card making. We created this cute Elephant Button Handmade Card using our Favorite Findings buttons and card stock. We even decorated it with sweet little tassels. This is a birthday card but you can easily change it to match a baby shower theme.

To begin, cut the navy card stock to 8 inch by 12 inch. Fold the 12 inch side in half to create a 6 inch by 8 inch card. Cut the aqua card stock to 5-1/2 inch by 7-1/2 inch. Center and glue to the front of the navy card. Cut the white card stock to 5 inch by 7 inch. Center and glue on top of the aqua piece.

Elephant Button Handmade Card Step 1

Using the paper punches, make two scalloped circles from the coral card stock and one from the navy card stock. Use the 1-1/2 inch circle punch to make three circles from the white card stock. Glue the white centers to the scalloped circles.

Next, cut a 7-1/2 inch by 1-1/2 inch piece of the aqua card stock. To make the banner, cut a 7 inch by 1 inch piece of the navy card stock and 6-3/4 inch by 3/4 inch piece of the white card stock.

Elephant Button Handmade Card Step 2

Cut a notch out of both ends of the navy and white strips. (We traced a collar stay). Glue the white banner on top of the navy banner. Score at 2 inches and 1-1/2 inches from the ends and fold. Write the message on the banner. Make two small tassels using the embroidery thread. Sew the buttons onto the white circles using the needle and embroidery thread.

To assemble to card, glue the aqua strip to the front of the card, towards the bottom. Glue the banner on top of the aqua strip. Use the coral colored pencil to draw the banner string in a long “U” shape. Glue the elephant button circles and tassels on top of the pencil line to create the banner.
