To be quite honest with you, I was having difficulties figuring out how to begin writing this blog today – however the more I thought about it, how many really know or understand what Steampunk even means? Do you?
If you “Google” Steampunk you’ll find over 30,400 links/topics. Now I understand not everyone has time to actually sit and go through every single one (nor do I!). But if you take the definition of Steampunk from Wikipedia it states:
“Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction and sometimes fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.”
Although if you go http://2015.steampunkworldsfaire.com/ you may find a simpler definition and a better knowledge…
However, we are talking about BUTTONS! Introducing Steampunk buttons! Some of you may have already seen them at Joann’s Fabric & Craft Stores and also on our website. And if you still can’t wrap your head around it this may help you better understand – sometimes it’s a takes a visual that helps explain…
Finally here they are 23 great styles from brass, silver, antique gold – gear, timepieces, hearts, buckles….
“Steampunk is inspired by movement of creativity and imagination”
It’s as simple as taking glass bottles and creating jewelry for them. Here I wrapped the necks of the bottle with jute added rhinestone, several chains in assorted sizes and color added our buttons and now it’s a piece of art for your home. I also created a necklace adding chains and of course our buttons that look like gears.
Not sure if you’re ready to tackle home dec – just by adding buttons to your boots or even your hat you’ve created a Steampunk look.
These next projects were created by Candy Rosenberg – scrapbook, tags and even trinket box…
In addition here are several images that I pulled from the internet to show you that Steampunk is all around us. With some imagination you can come up with some great ideas…
Steampunk Home Decor
(I think we even still have my grandmother’s old machine!)
A bit of Victorian British Empire inspiration
Yes – Steampunk is also inspired by the Wild Wild West!
Hopefully by providing you with these photos we’ve inspired you to create your STEAMPUNK BUTTON Projects! These new steampunk buttons will be available on our website buttons.com in the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
