Here’s a rustic Button Sign to create for your favorite maker. It makes a thoughtful Christmas gift! You can personalize this sign with a name, design, or a quote. Just select different button sizes depending on the number of letters and the size of your piece of wood.

You can either start with a piece of reclaimed wood or create the look yourself. To create a distressed look with a new piece of wood you will need a hammer, stain, sandpaper, 2 inch paint brush, and white paint. First, sand all the edges (but not the front or back of the sign). Next, use the hammer to distress the wood. Then apply the stain and allow to dry. Once the stain is dry, use a dry paint brush and dip the tips into white paint. Wipe of the excess pain and then brush across the sign, following the grain. Once dry, use the sandpaper to distress the paint by rubbing it over the surface with the grain. Dust off the surface you’re ready to add your design!
Measure 2 inches down from the top of the sign and 2 inches up from the bottom and place tape across sign as a guide for placing buttons. Measure 1 inch in from each side and place tape for a guide.
Make each letter approximately 4 inches wide and 7 inches long. Place buttons down to spell the word HOME. Use the tape as a guide to keep the letters even.
Use the crystal button in the letter O. Adjust the buttons until you are happy with the design. Next, glue down each button. Carefully remove the masking tape.
You might want to make two signs so you can keep one for yourself and give the other as a gift!
