OH CHRISTMAS TREE, OH CHRISTMAS TREE…It may be a bit too soon to be singing but not early enough to begin crafting for the Holidays…(although last week I heard Holiday music being played – SERIOUSLY?). It did put me in the mood to begin thinking.
So how about a “rustic” Christmas tree…
I love that outdoor, rustic feeling. I knew I had items from the year before that I could recycle – berries and grapevine branches from my old wreath and fabric that was in my bin!
Materials:
- Favorite Findings – Big Bag of Buttons #2012 Christmas
- Favorite Findings #407 – Green
- Favorite Findings #408 – Burgundy
- Styrofoam cone
- Fabric – green and plaid
- Berries
- Grapevine branches
- Raffia
- Straight pins
- Glue
- Floral wire
Cover cone with desired fabric (I used green cotton) you will have to do some tucking in the back. Dab with some glue and secure with pins.
Using your plaid fabric – cut this into a 1″ wide and approx 20″ long strip allowing it to fray at the edges (remember rustic). Begin at the top – secure with a straight pin – wrap strip around cone allowing for a 2″ gap to show. Cut excess and secure underneath.
Open your packages of buttons and randomly begin gluing to the tree as shown in photo (yes I also used buttons in the back).
Take your grapevine branch and begin wrapping (be patient – it does take sometime to secure this portion) HINT: cut a couple of pieces of floral wire approx 2″ and form a “U-shape” – secure the branch at the top and where needed.
Berries (my berries were on a thin wrapped wire branch) again start at top secure and wrap.
To make the topper – take 2 big FF Buttons place back to back and secure with glue. With plaid strip and raffia make 2 bows, glue to button. Add additional button to the center of bow.
Now your ready to display your Rustic Chrismas Tree…Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree…
