Update the look of your Christmas tree with these felt button ornaments. We used a woodland theme for these acorn and tree ornaments. Adjust the shapes and colors to match your existing tree décor to refresh your holiday theme.
To make these felt button ornaments you will need the following materials:
La Mode, 9/16 Inch Tan Wood Buttons, 200003161A
La Mode, 3/8 Inch White Agoya Shell Buttons, 400048199
Felt, In White, Beige and Brown
Embroidery Thread, Gold and Silver
Acorn and Tree Templates
Poly Filling
Fabric Glue or Glue Gun
Needle
Scissors
Straight Pins
To begin, sketch or print out the acorn and tree shapes onto paper. Cut out each shape to create the templates. Pin the templates onto the felt and cut out two pieces for each ornament (for a front and a back).
We glued the buttons onto the ornaments but you can sew them on instead. Just sew the buttons on before attaching the front and back of the ornaments.
Cut a small stem from the brown felt for each acorn ornament. Glue the stem to top of acorn on the inside. Glue acorn tops to bottoms. Place the front and back acorns with their back sides together. Stitch along the edges and stuff inside with a small amount of stuffing before closing with stitches. Glue the buttons to the acorn top.
Cut a small trunk from the brown felt for each tree ornament. Glue the trunk to the bottom of the tree on the inside. Place the front and back trees with their back sides together. Stitch along the edges and stuff inside with a small amount of stuffing before closing with stitches. Glue the buttons to the tree.
Once complete, use the thread to add a loop at the top of each ornament for hanging.
You can also use these felt button ornaments to decorate wrapped packages or holiday gift baskets!
