You’re probably wondering what this blog is all about! Well it’s funny that you ask…It was about a month or so ago when I answered the phone to hear this woman introduce herself as Audrey Shustek and start explaining to me that she’s searching high and low for this particular button to finish a sweater that she just finished and only needed 3 more buttons and couldn’t find in her local craft store…she could only give me the UPC and the color and size of the button. Low and behold I found her the buttons and I think I made her day or atleast I know she was pleased she could finish her sweater.
From that day forward a friendship was made just by answering the phone! I learned that Audrey is from Florida and is a young woman at heart at the age of 82 which she is proud to tell all. She’s leads a very active life…she’s volunteered in numerous organizations such as Easter Seals, blood drives, started food programs for seniors…and now she keeps busy with ladies from her community.
When she organized a blood drive in N.Y. during a shortage, her motto was “Don’t give until it hurts; give until it makes you feel good”. She was recently interviewed by a reporter from the SUN a weekly addition of the Tampa Tribune, showing her craft– hand knit baby sweaters.. Now she working diligently with a group called Suzanne Ciani Brain Cancer Foundation. She will donate 20 baby sweaters to anyone giving a minimum of $2000.00 to the Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, Brain cancer research center. Moffitt Cancer Center is the only cancer center in Florida. Now, again, her motto is “give until it makes you feel good, not until it hurts”.
And now let me introduce you to Audrey…
Here are some of her sweaters she created for me as gifts – are these not precious?!
And after all this – we commissioned her to create/knit us the “scarf” dress which will be featured at the H&H show in Cologne this week.
So we thank Audrey for her work (120 inches) worth of scarf here which was donated by Schachenmayr a European division of Coats – THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
So I’m glad to have met Audrey via phone and email and start a new friendship!
Happy Crafting!
